Harry Staley with Staley's Tire & Automotive says check the air pressure in your vehicle's tires regularly during the winter months. Your tires will lose pressure as they warm in the garage, and cool in the outside weather. Tires that lose pressure will rob you of fuel economy, and when the roads clear and the potholes appear, they can sustain sidewall breaks when you hit one.
Keep your tire gauge handy. Resist the urge to say it's too cold and check your tires when you fuel up.
In newer vehicles, pay attention to the "TPMS," or Tire Pressure Monitoring System. You can pick up a nail or screw and not lose pressure immediately until the nail works its way out. Probably 90% or more of what we believe to be tire blowouts are actually tires that have simply lost air due to some undiscovered tire problem.
For optimum safe vehicle handling and fuel efficiency, regularly check the air pressure in your tires!
